REPORT ON NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMP

We left Srinagar in ?A? class bus & passed over Dalgate-Pandchokh-Pampur-Anantnag-Qazigund-Jawahar tunnel-Shaitan nalah-Banihal-Rambhan-Patinitop-Nagrota to Jammu in 13 hour?s duration & reached there on Tuesday, Aug 30, 1994.After reaching Jammu, we marched to the nearby stadium & stayed there for a whole night .It was an army camp, where we enjoyed lot of refreshments & so many things. Some boys were interesting to pass the whole night outside the army quarter hall in a garden & army trucks.

Next day, we wake up at 04:00:00 AM in the morning, beginning of the day light. We watched the whole area around the spot & bathed here in cold running water. At 05:00:00 hr?s, we two guys namely Mr. Altaf & me prayed Nimaz in the same place, where we laid last night. Other boys were not present there. One of the guy reported us to guard there equipments until there arrival.

Suddenly, there started heavy raining & we got our pants & shoes watered. The clothes of other guys, who visited outside the spot, were also watered. The handbags, suitcases & other equipments of boys were also watered in the vehicles & tippers. Those things were kept in vehicles & tippers by boys. I opened the window of a jeep & sit there for some time to defend my self from rain. In the opposite side, I saw a priest praying to God. Unfortunately, I rang the horn of a military jeep, which alerted the military personal & he warned me to leave the jeep along with the equipments kept in it. He shouted forcibly & I left the jeep. Then other boys also came there. They took of there essential commodities from the jeep & assembled in a hidden place having a steel roof. Now, we had to pass a long distance to reach the tipper booked for our next destination. We took off our pants up to the upper limbs & then passed the watery land along with the shoes in our hands & caught the tipper. Then we left to Jammu Railway Station in the army truck. We reached there at 10:30:00 AM & stayed at a platform up to 03:40:00 PM .I and other boys weighted themselves by an Automatic weighting measurement machine.

At 03:40:00 PM, we stepped into a train and passed through Pathankot (end of Jammu), raja nagar (Punjab), Ludhiana etc. and reached to Ambala at 2:00am. Here we slept at the platform of a railway station up to 4:00am. Boys opened their Dari and slept on it. Most of boys want to stay in a stopped bus. The shouting of boys wakes up the Driver and he threatened us to leave the bus. Then I managed to stay on Iqbal?s Dari along with him as I had given my Dari to Mr. Dar Sahib and his immediate friend. We opened eyes at 4:00am and went to bath and washing. I had forgotten the toothbrush and I cleaned my teeth by close-up toothpaste of someone.

We also tried to contact our parents by telephone exchange, but failed. Then, we took up bus numbered 1006 and left to Ranookai situated in Himachal Pradesh (close to shimla) by passing through the cities and villages of Punjab. In a way we left up Chandigarh and entered Himachal Pradesh covering with the highest mountains and zigzag mats. We entered the Himachal Pradesh after passing of at least four mountains at the top and reached Ranookai. Here we were welcomed by the NCC Guards and officials of a camp. We entered in the camp with the great respect. We marched to the site in straight lines. Mr. Altaf-ul-Rehman (2nd Lt, NCC officer) met other officials and seated with them, he showed the important documents to the NCC officials as a proof from NCC Headquarter Srinagar and College. The official provided us the stationery of three tents and advised to manage and install these tents each of capacity 10-15 boys.

J&K cadets were busy in the setting and installation of tents but unfortunately, I passed lot of time in watching of environment around us, I saw other cadets belonging to different states who were engaged in the setting of tents. I basically was waiting for the digging tools as instructed by Mr. Sajad (one of our J&K Bn-25 Sgr. cadet). I couldn?t manage it and lost opportunities at least, two times. One of the J&K Bn-25 NCC Cadet (Amy wing sgr.), Coded ?king? advised me to join our cadets, who were already engaged in the other activities. He opposed me not to force neighbored cadets for the delivery of digging tools. He entrusted me that he would himself manage for the tools and delivered it to me. I agreed and returned but I couldn?t adjust my self in the group waiting for the required tools. I saw a relevant groups indulged in their work. Mr. Altaf-u-rehman advised me to set up a third tent. Now I and other four cadets we busy in the setting of a tent that include the leveling of a ground surface, turn out of grasses and digging of a land around the tent.

After some time, the bell rang indicating to go for a noon refreshments. We were not satisfied with the food consisting of heavy rice, eight breads (chapattis), cooked vegetables and pulses. The rice was cooked carefully, the pulses were not salted well, but the bread was so tasty. Later on, we went to bath in the running water channel. I take up the snaps of grouped boys. I took lot of time in bathing for which our NCC in charge got angry and advised me to get up the clothes then the whistle rang again indicating the gathering of cadets the for getting instructions. We assembled in fifty columns and seventeen rows, there were other cadets belonging to different states. In the evening the whistle rang again showing to take up evening fort, the evening fort was so tasty and we got routinely suit for it.

In the morning, we wake up at 4:00am and went to bath etc. at 05:00:00 AM; we dressed up with uniforms, combing hair etc. At 06:00:00 AM, the whistle rings again. Then, we all cadets identified J&K State Ist Bn-25 Srinagar and other states having different Bn?s straight line. There, we were addressed by NCC officer, he gave us a lot of instructions and handed various tasks for all Bn?s. Some were advised to decorate their tents and accommodations, some were instructed to cut of the around grasses to clear the way.

Now, we J&K Bn-25 were also engaged in the activities including the cutting of wild grasses. There after 20-25 minutes, all of managed to go back in our tents after the completion of work. But the whistle rang again and we all gathered in straight lines having rows and columns. We were instructed that the high level NCC officer will visit to each and every tent of the NIC camp premises and there will be introduction between the cadets and officers in each tent. The marks will be given on the basis of tents, internal and external decoration.

Now, our Commander Mr. Dar Sahib was advised to pick up ten students required for the certain job to be handed over on spot. Then, I and other nine cadets were selected for the purpose. Then we followed the NCC official under his command. He ordered us to be act on the instructions given by him.

Here, we had parades and he also allowed us for drinking water and rest. There after sometime, few boys escaped, he ordered to rest of boys to come back along with the escaped boys. I was also among the escaped boys. I and other few boys disagreed to follow the instructions given by the official. We some boys were escaped because of a huge work to be done and completed; thereafter the NCC official visited us and called our NCC officer. He told him, the boys went out without his permission and beat us a little bit. He ordered me and the two cadets to shift few chairs from that place to other and the work finished. Now the whistle rang again and we went for the breakfast. There after we were busy in decorating the tents. One of cadet designed the NCC flag on the front portion of the tents ground. We were busy in these activities for about a half day. Then we went for the afternoon lunch. We were waiting for the visited official throughout the day but no body comes. The bell ranges again and we were instructed about the next program and aims of NIC Camp by the NCC officials. They advised us to perform night duties also to safeguard the every member of NIC camp. They advised us to restore the discipline and not try to move outside the campus. On the next day, the forecast was not so well. There started a heavy rain fall; all of the cadets dressed their water proof jackets. I also wearied my waterproof jacket. The raining was in rush. The whistle rang again and we were instructed to go back in the tents. After some time the sky became cloudless. Now, we were again busy in daily activities. After the breakfast the whistle rang again and we were given certain instructions. We were addressed by NCC officials; they informed us the activities will be going on up to 10 days. There will be cultural programs, debates, NCC essay competitions; parades etc. each day will be certain Bn?s day that will have to prepare themselves for the above activities. There will be also a one day tour to Shimla, Dargiling etc. for which each cadet have to pay rupees 100. In the behalf of this information, every cadet raised his hands up. Then we were ordered to attend the NIC hall. We all cadets belonging to different state Bn?s gathered in a hall where many NCC officials addressed us. The cadets of different states (Bn?s) also came to the stage to address and present jokes, dialogues etc. one of our cadet namely Firdous commenced the dialogue and jokes. And after sometime he requested only J&K Cadets to stand up and to answer to his commitment, he shouted ?chaay? we replied ?konsee? he answered Cold drink and we again replied and shouted ?hojaye?. Now we were advised to attend the hall again at 10:00:00 AM. At 10:00:00 AM, we again gathered in the NCC hall. Officers addressed us. One of the officers explained the geographical nature of Himachal Pradesh and other Indian States, we got bored and all the cadets shouted and raised their hands to stop the lecture. After continuing this process, he stopped and we were allowed to go back-now we Mr. Sajad, Mr. Syed Mujtuba, Mr. Iqbal and other cadets grouped together to have a snap with senior officials and our NCC in charge.

Suddenly, we heard the bad news that we have to left the premises (camps) and return back to our the state and cancelled the ongoing camp. One of the clerks from I.C.S.C. informed us that militants have threatened them to cancel the program and return of the cadets back to the valley up to 6th September. Then all of us got worried and bad mood. Mr. Altaf rehman himself go to obtain an order for the cancellation of the J&K State NIC program. We all were instructed to claim the examination of degree courses for which we have to leave the camp. Now we were busy in packing of our commodities such as clothes, shoes, dories etc. after afternoon lunch we were waiting for the signal went out from the NIC Camp with the arrival for Mr. Altaf-ur-Rehman. After some time, the whistle ranged and we were instructed together in the park near pond on the back side of NIC Camp.

There we were informed, about the next day competition programs of parades etc. we were also instructed for the preparation. Now we had to leave the camp, although, for showy purpose, we took part in parades here. Now today was Punjab Bn.day. They presented cultural programs. After parades all of the cadets seated in the park in straight lines in front of the stage to watch the Punjabi cadets cultural program. Initially they showed us natak, Punjabi folk dance, they sang Punjabi songs also. In the park we took up the snapshots of grouped cadets, J&K Bn-25. Suddenly we were called for gathering to receive certain information from N.C.C. officer, Altaf sahib. He informed us about the lifting of the above camp. Now we marched to our tents & pick up all our packed instruments & gathering it all together. Now we were ready for the lifting up of the camp in an army truck. We informed the other guys remained there about the cancellation of the N.I.C camp & further a non real message of about the conduction of examination by the Kashmir University. They got very emotional sensational feelings on the lifting of camp. Some one wept with great feelings. We also entrust them about the next meeting as God wishes. We also got a great sensation & turn out a little drop of water from the eyes. We gave them our address & exchange it. All the cadets sang a sweet song.

CHALTEY CHALTEY KABI ALWIDA NA KAHNA
HAMAI TUM YAD RAKHNA KABI ALWIDA NA KAHNA???.
& lift the camp.

Our N.C.C. officer counted us one by one. While counting I manage to jump the army truck from other side but another N.C.C. official beat me a little bit on doing so. Now we were given biscuit packets. We reached Ambala at 01:00:00 A.M, there we caught the train at 1:30:00 A.M. the after continuous journey by the train we reached Jammu in morning at 11:30:00 A.M. we were very exhausted & tired, so we managed to stay there in a certain hotel near bus stand. We tripped city to city of a Jammu & also watched a movie ?naraz? in K.C. cinema at 6:00 P.M; we went to the charming healthy place Baughi sudha bahu. We snapped photographs there in shade & glowing lamps. Then we went back to the hotel for rest & meal. In the morning, we lift the Jammu by bus at 7:00 P.M, but due to the non clearance of the road & bad weather, we reached Nagrota at 12:40 P.M. & after the clearance of the road, we continue our track & reached shaitan nallah near tunnel. Here we stayed up to the next morning due to the information that tunnel remains closed from 8:00 P.M. some cadets went to hotels & some one rested in the bus. We left the spot on next morning & reached Srinagar at 10:30 a .m. then all the boys went to their homes in busses & auto rickshaws.

Remarks: - We lost the competitive N.I.C. certificate, because we don?t attend the course period for N.I.C. activities, although, we have learnt the peak.
